Our story
After nearly a decade of working in the Dutch cannabis industry, one frustration kept coming back: finding reliable, up-to-date information about coffeeshops and their menus was unnecessarily difficult. Menus change weekly, sometimes more often. Calling ahead is rarely an option since many coffeeshops don't have a public phone number, and those that do often prefer not to share menu details over the phone. The reality is that a visit is usually the only way to know what's actually available.
At the same time, the Netherlands is becoming more international every year. Tourists, international students, and expats all want to explore the coffeeshop culture, but information in languages other than Dutch is scarce. The few existing platforms are outdated or incomplete. Leafly, while excellent, focuses primarily on the American market and operates in English only.
Cannabizzz was built to solve this. A single platform where anyone can find every coffeeshop in the Netherlands, browse detailed strain information, compare menus and prices, and do it all in their preferred language. We combined deep industry knowledge with modern technology to build something that genuinely did not exist yet.

The Dutch coffeeshop landscape
The Netherlands has a unique tolerance policy for cannabis, known as the gedoogbeleid. Coffeeshops operate under strict AHOJG criteria set by the Public Prosecution Service, which include rules around advertising, age verification, quantity limits, and nuisance prevention. Every municipality sets its own coffeeshop policy, which means rules can vary significantly from city to city.
In most cities, tourists and international visitors are welcome at coffeeshops. However, certain municipalities near the Belgian and German borders enforce the I-criterion (ingezetenencriterium), which restricts access to Dutch residents only. This includes cities like Maastricht, Breda, Heerlen, and Terneuzen. Cannabizzz clearly indicates which cities have this restriction so visitors can plan ahead.
By offering the platform in six languages, including Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian, we make this information accessible to the millions of international visitors who come to the Netherlands each year, as well as the growing community of expats and international students living here.

Our detailed strain profiles, including effects, terpene data, and CBD percentages, are designed to help users find the right product for their specific needs, whether that is relaxation, focus, pain management, or sleep.
